Interview

When did you start to get interested in music?

Music has been the biggest thing in my life since I was about 8 years old. At age 8, I started taking voice lessons. Then at around 11-12, I started writing songs and I never stopped writing. My brother Harry and I both grew up working on and writing music separately.

Then after Harry learned production we thought we had to work together. That was in about 2019, now I have released 6 songs that we have written together and Harry produced.

If you were an advertisement, which would your slogan be?

Lost In My Own Head

Which is the part you enjoy the most about music?

What I enjoy most is the songwriting. I won’t lie a lot of times I get frustrated writing songs. Once the idea is there, I just want to get it in the song the right way. However like any project or art, good songs sometimes take time.

My brother could tell you when we are writing songs, I can get very upset and then super excited. Despite that frustration, writing is still my favorite part. Especially when all the ideas come together and the song starts taking form.

Most artists say that through their art they learn more about themselves, heal injuries… In which aspects has music helped you?

I think my music mostly helps me understand the emotions I am feeling but can’t describe in conversation. I’ll write songs sometimes and look back at the words and think, “wow I didn’t even realize I felt that way but that is so true”. I do really feel like my best music and songwriting comes from my unconscious thoughts and feelings.

What does music mean to you?

My art means everything to me. It is my whole life.

Who are your idols?

My biggest idol in music is and has always been Taylor Swift. I was that one girl everyone knew who loved Taylor Swift. I think a big part of it was by watching Taylor Swift at such a young age, I realized that I want to be a singer-songwriter.

I asked for my first guitar because Taylor Swift played guitar. Then with that guitar I wrote all my first songs. Also because she is such a kind, talented, and passionate person who is constantly making amazing art. My main idol in life is my mom.

My mom is my best friend and is always there for no matter what I do. She is so strong, funny, kind and I’m so lucky to have her as my mom.

If you didn’t like music, what would you like to do?

If I wasn’t an artist, I think I would definitely be working with animals. Anything I do that is not related to art has to do with animals like volunteering and past part time jobs. I would work at an animal sanctuary or in another field dedicated to helping animals if I wasn’t an artist.

Do you consider that nowadays there are more or less opportunities for new artists? Why?

There are definitely more opportunities for artists nowadays which is amazing. However, that has a downfall. Everyone says it’s never been easier for an artist to make because they can just go viral on TikTok or get millions of streams.

While that is true, I think all those opportunities sometimes put extra pressure on artists. I am so grateful for all the resources and outlets I have to show my music on. But sometimes it can be hard to hear how easy it is for new artists when I might be struggling at certain points.

What would your idyllic life as an artist be like?

My idyllic life would be to spend half my time writing and working on music at home and the other half, touring the world and getting to share my music with people.

Which are your upcoming projects?

I am releasing my new single “High School” on October 22nd. I am so excited about this single. We put a lot of work into this song, the music video, all the visuals and promotion. High School is about that nostalgic feeling you have for the good parts of high school like having lunch with your friends, driving to school or getting ready for parties.

But it is also about all the bad parts about high school and the affect it has on teenagers. The song can really be summed up but the hook line of the chorus, “I don’t miss high school, but I miss you”.

I would hate to have to go back to high school, but I miss the security of seeing my best friends five days a week. Now that we are all older, all my friends and I are in different places for college and work. So sometimes I wish we could all just be in the same place again.
