Singer & Songwriter

About

Vic James is an independent singer-songwriter whose work explores healing, vulnerability, and emotional storytelling through music. With a creative background rooted in acting and musical theatre, his artistic journey began on stage at an early age, performing in choirs, school productions, and church ensembles. These formative experiences shaped his deep connection to narrative, drama, and emotional expression.

From learning piano at seven to experimenting with vocals and trumpet, music gradually became his primary creative language. In his early years, collaboration played a central role, with songwriting partnerships and community-based musical projects helping him refine his voice and artistic identity.

A significant creative shift occurred in his thirties, when Vic transitioned fully from acting to songwriting, choosing to tell his own story rather than embody fictional roles. His music blends cinematic emotion with influences ranging from Broadway to hard rock, resulting in a sound defined by honesty, intensity, and depth. Through melody and lyrical introspection, Vic James transforms personal reflection into music that resonates with listeners navigating darkness, memory, and hope.

Interview

When did it all start?

It started during a period of uncertainty, when music became the clearest way for me to process what was happening around me. Writing gave me structure when everything else felt unsettled.

If you were an advertisement, what would your slogan be?

Still standing. It reflects resilience, consistency, and choosing to move forward even when the path isn’t obvious.

What does your career mean to you?

My career represents long-term growth and accountability. It’s about building something meaningful through consistency rather than chasing short-term attention. “I’m more interested in longevity than quick visibility.”

What is your main motivation?

My main motivation is connection. I want people to relate to my music and feel the same emotions I felt while writing it—the uncertainty, the weight, and the release. “I want people to feel the moments the songs were written in.”

What is the part you enjoy the most? And the worst?

I enjoy the writing and recording process, especially refining lyrics until they communicate exactly what I want to say. The hardest part is the uncertainty and the patience required between releases. “The creation grounds me; the waiting tests me.”

Who are your idols?

Some of my idols are Citizen Soldier, NF, and Breaking Benjamin. I’m drawn to artists who aren’t afraid to be emotionally honest and who use music as a way to process real struggles rather than hide them. “They make music that feels lived in, not performative.”

In case you need a break in your career, what else would you like to do?

I’d continue writing—either for others or in another creative medium—and helping people develop their voice. “Creation is a constant for me, not a phase.”

Do you consider that nowadays there are more or less opportunities for new artists? Why?

There are more entry points but higher expectations. Access is easier, but sustaining attention requires clarity, consistency, and identity. “Access is easy; sustainability is the challenge.”

What would your idyllic life be like?

A stable, balanced life built around creating meaningful music, performing with intention, and staying present with the people I care about. “Success, to me, is stability and creative freedom.”

What are your next projects?

I’m currently developing a focused body of work centered on resilience and personal growth, with an emphasis on storytelling and cohesion. “I’m building a catalog, not chasing moments.”
