Singer & Songwriter

About

Jack Rush is an American expat based in Switzerland, this independent singer-songwriter has built a lifelong relationship with music that fully blossomed later in life. Having started his musical journey at the age of 17, he spent decades studying, refining his craft, and nurturing a deep creative curiosity before stepping into the spotlight. His official recording career began in 2024 with the release of his debut single “Wanna Fly,” followed by his first full-length album released at the age of 68 , a milestone that reflects both perseverance and artistic maturity.

Now actively working on his second album, he continues to write and record original songs, finding particular joy in studio recording and the creative process itself. Influenced by iconic artists such as The Beatles, Neil Young, Beck, Pixies, Kurt Vile, and Mac DeMarco, his music reflects authenticity, introspection, and a genuine love for songwriting. Living by a Swiss lakeside surrounded by mountains, he balances his artistic work with family life, travel, and gardening, embodying the belief that creative expression has no expiration date.

Interview

When did it all start?

I’ve been a musician since I was 17 years old and I dreamed of  making and performing music but I knew I wasn’t actually good enough. But I kept studying all these years until it finally hit me that I realized I was ready to give it a try and soon after I released my first single Wanna Fly in June 2024 and I’ve been writing and recording songs ever since.

If you were an advertisement, what would your slogan be?

It’s never too late, until it is – so do it now!

What does your career mean to you?

Writing and recording songs is very challenging and intrinsically rewarding and a source of immense joy to me.

What is your main motivation?

My main motivation is to express myself creatively and enjoy the process as much as the result.

What is the part you enjoy the most? And the worst?

The part I enjoy the most is recording in the studio. I struggle quite a bit to make my own demos so I guess that’s what I enjoy the least.

Who are your idols?

Well I have so many musical idols but to name a few I would say The Beatles, Neil Young, Beck, Pixies, more recently Kurt Vile and Mac Demarco among others.

In case you need a break in your career, what else would you like to do?

I like to work in my vegetable garden

Do you consider that nowadays there are more or less opportunities for new artists? Why?

There is more access to get your music published but other than festivals there seem to be less venues for playing live music than in days past.

What would your idyllic life be like?

I’m very fortunate to be living it as we speak, living on a lakeside in Switzerland surrounded by mountains and since I retired from my money job, I have the luxury of making music as much as I like and spending time with my family and friends. I also enjoy occasional travel.
