Singer & Songwriter
When did it all start?
From an early child I was always singing songs I’d make up on the go. Whether it was skiing down a mountain, riding in the car, or lying in bed at night, I sang out loud to my heart’s content. I started writing lyrics down, making beats on garage band, and recording my own songs when I was about 15. So my whole life I’ve been passionate about music.
If you were an advertisement, what would your slogan be?
If you were an advertisement, what would your slogan be? It would definitely be “Be Yourself and You’ll Be Brilliant”, because that is my slogan I live by. My creative flair and my unique personality drive me towards music and lyricism and I’ve always known that as long as I write what I feel and imagine I will make myself proud and make it in this world.
What does your career mean to you?
It means everything, truly. It feels amazing that I can finally overcome all my struggles with mental illness and build a career in music. I’ve always wanted this and to me it means that I have triumphed against all the odds.
What is your main motivation?
My main motivation is making my dream a reality. I’m really driven to make my lyrics come to life into songs and to just enjoy being a recording artist and immerse myself in the journey.
What is the part you enjoy the most? And the worst?
The best part is the excitement of writing a new song and then hearing it transform and evolve with beats and instruments. I’ve never felt such excitement as hearing my songs go from acapella versions to fully produced and recorded studio tracks. The whole in between process is even better, just experiencing and participating in every aspect of making my music. For me, there is no worst part. I enjoy every moment of it!
Who are your idols?
Since I’ve always been into both singing and rapping, I have a few idols for each. First there’s Jack’s Mannequin, The Killers, and Death Cab for Cutie. They all encapsulate storytelling, artistic creativity and self-expression, which are very important to my own music. For hip-hop, my idols are Eminem, Tupac and Jay-Z. Eminem for his wordplay, Tupac for his poetry, and Jay-Z for his sound and flow. All of these artists paint a picture with their words, which is essential in my opinion to create great music.
In case you need a break in your career, what else would you like to do?
I’ve always been an avid writer whether it be lyrics, poems or stories. If I were to do something else for a moment outside of music, I would want to write and publish some children’s books that I have ideas for. But music is my lifeline, so honestly I would still be doing that at the same time!
Do you consider that nowadays there are more or less opportunities for new artists? Why?
I think that social media has really opened a door for new artists to get themselves out there. At the same time, however, there are so many new artists coming out all the time that it’s more difficult to stand out and get noticed.
What would your idyllic life be like?
Ideally, I’d love to collaborate with some of my favorite artists. I think when creative minds get together something really special can happen. I want my life to be busy with writing and recording, and releasing music for the world to hear and vibe with!
What are your next projects?
I’m very excited to release my first EP, self titled My Name Is Tamsin, in January. In the meantime I’ll be focused on promoting my Christmas song, Joy & Love (All Around Me). I can’t wait for you all to hear it, and to be able to share the magic of the holidays with all my listeners!
