Interview

When did it all start?
It all started at the young age of 10, growing up as an only child I would create these fantasy worlds, filled with my favorite TV, cartoon, and movie characters, and act every single one of them out, giving them arcs, a unique voice, and motive. Coming to Canada and signing up for the film and TV course in high school made a world of a difference and opened up my eyes to the possibility of acting being a career I could pursue, a way to keep the kid alive and create art!
If you were an advertisement, what would your slogan be?
You have more blessings than you think
What does your career mean to you?
My career means so much to me! On a personal level, it allows me to be free and explore all sides of who I am, and what it means to be human, while also having fun becoming a character and living alternate lives in one lifetime. On a service level, my career allows me to connect with people, and hopefully inspire them on their journey.
What is your main motivation?
My main motivation is to inspire. I have many heroes in my life both spiritual and physical that I admire and look up to, and because of their light, I gained the confidence and strength to be authentic, faithful, and motivated to go after my goals and dreams. I feel the world would be a better place if everyone knew their purpose, and lived in their true power to fulfill such purpose, but it’s hard sometimes, it’s like climbing a mountain, you could fall, you could get over exhausted, but when we see someone climb that very mountain the energy of “Possible” takes over, and we gain the strength to take the steps inch by inch towards the peak. I want to be that light, and I want someone to take that light I give, become it, and do become the light for another spectator.
What is the part you enjoy the most? And the worst?
The best part is working with the crew and fellow actors, as humans we have the primal urge to become a part of something, to be accepted into a “pack” and nothing has made me feel more included than working on a set. I’ve made lifelong friends that I consider family working on sets, I’ve learned so much about the industry, the craft, and myself being on set. If I had to say what the worst part of what I do is, it would be the instability, Film is such a volatile industry, very unpredictable, but I embrace that, and in the down times I work on myself, and when it’s back up again I’m ready and on fire!
Who are your idols?
First off, shout out to God! But my earthly idols would be Steve Harvey, Jordan Peele, and Mahershala Ali.
In case you need a break in your career, what else would you like to do?
If there ever comes a time when I want to take a break from acting, I would still do something in film, Directing, or Cinematography. But outside of that I would love to travel around the world, and do my workouts, gotta stay fit!
Do you consider that nowadays there are more or less opportunities for new artists? Why?
Yes and no. I do believe the film industry has a lot of opportunities for new and upcoming artists, that being said on the flip side it can become cliquey and hard to breach certain circles. But as a new artist there’s so much room for growth and exploration, which is the best part of the journey as an artist.
What would your idyllic life be like?
Ideally, I would love my life to have a lot of adventure be it traveling, or a quadbike ride through a forest. I would love to be a leading character in a TV series and do 2 to 3 movies a year, one sci-fi, one action, one comedy. To have a lovely home, where I can work out, with a movie room, and play my video games.
What are your next projects?
My next upcoming projects are, season five of Star Trek: Discovery, and this season will be the biggest and most action-packed of the series to date, I can’t say too much, but it’s going to be a very beautiful and memorable story, the fans are gonna love it! I’ve also been blessed to be cast as a supporting star in the upcoming feature film titled Morningside, a story of gentrification in Scarborough. I’m excited for people to see this, it’s a raw, truthful story told in a very beautiful and heartfelt way, and the character I play is very different from any character I’ve ever played before, but you’ll have to wait and see!
