Interview

What was the most fun part about playing Diem in Reminders of Him, and how did you make her feel real and special to you?

Everything was so fun. I felt like it was real family, even when we weren’t filming. We ate lunch together a lot and I even had a pizza party at my hotel and Lauren and Tyriq came. Diem is special because she is loving and does fun things.  She has a fun bedroom with really cool things. Diem is like me a lot already. I love that she loves her family so much!

Diem is imaginative and very bright. Are you similar to her in real life, and what do you think makes her such a light in the story?

Yes, so much. Even our favorite color is the same. It is yellow. She has super fun style like me and has amazing cowboy boots and I love cowboy boots too. She has awesome dragon wings and I got to keep a different pair of dragon wings from set, that I wear a lot. Diem has lots of fun when she does things and that is like me. I like to paint nails and Diem does too. She also likes junk food haha. I love junk food and sweets. She loves her family and they love her and she loves them. She feels happy lots and has fun (that’s her answer to what makes her such a light in the story).

You worked with amazing actors like Lauren Graham, Maika Monroe, Rudy Pankow and Bradley Whitford. What did you learn from being on set with them?

To feel my feelings like I would feel my feelings in real life because then my body feels that way for real. They also told me I could ask them for help if I need it. This film tells an emotional story about family and second chances.

What do you hope people feel after they watch the movie?

I want them to be happy and know you can have another try if you make a big mistake. You started acting when you were very little and even tried to jump into your brother’s self tapes.

Do you remember the moment you realized you truly loved acting?

Always. I loved playing pretend since I was a baby and still do. I would love doing the self tape audition my brother got because it was fun. When I went to my brother’s movie set (Sharp Corner) I loved everything about set and wanted to be on my own set so bad.

In The Smashing Machine and Unspeakable: The Murder of JonBenét, you worked with actors like Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen. What was it like being on those sets at such a young age?

I didn’t get to work with Dwayne or Emily but I worked with Ryan Bader and Lyndsey and Benny (Safdie) and they were very nice. It was my first movie set I worked on..I was a little nervous but they and everyone, especially Benny were so nice to me. Benny and Ryan even gave me candy (Nerds). With Melissa McCarthy and Clive, I felt good. They were really nice to me too so it was easy acting with them. Melissa was funny too and I met her before we filmed. In one scene, she was talking to me like normal (not the script) and they filmed it and that was easy because I just talked with her.

When you are on set, what is your favorite part of the day, learning your lines, rehearsing, or hearing “action”?

I like rehearsing and blocking because together, we get to figure out what we are going to do. Then I love the acting part when they say “quiet on set, rolling, action”.  I also like lunch because I get to spend more time with the actors and eat food.

You love drawing, painting and inventing stories with your dolls. Do those creative games help you become a better actress?

Oh Yes. Because acting IS getting to play pretend.

If you could choose your next role, would you prefer to play a kind and joyful hero or a mischievous villain, and why?

A hero because I want to be a super hero in real life. I would like to be like Eleven from Stranger Things because she has powers and is kind and it would be awesome to film someone with powers.

You have already done so much at six years old. What is your biggest dream for the future, and who would you love to act alongside one day?

I want to be the main star and win awards for my acting. I want to act with Millie Bobby Brown. Also Taylor Swift and my brother, William. We are in Guarding Stars together, but not in the same scene but I would like to be in a scene with him.
