Interview

When did you start to get interested in music?

I have been singing since I was six years old, but I fell in love with music at a much earlier age. In my childhood home, there was a little radio in our kitchen and I would sit on a chair beside it for hours and listen to the works of Elivs, The Eagles, and Frankie Valli. I grew up to appreciate all genres of music. In fact, I almost became an opera singer. Trained in the classical style, I studied and performed the compositions of Schubert, Mozart and Bach to audiences at Carnegie Hall. But as I reached young adulthood, I discovered that the synergy of combining the sounds of classical music and the electronic sounds of art pop can fuse into a single beautiful identity. In addition to singing, I also play the guitar, the piano, the saxophone and the oboe.

If you were an advertisement, which would your slogan be?

My biggest influence is Weyes Blood’s Titanic Rising. Weyes Blood is a Art pop/Baroque Pop artist who makes gloriously beautiful music. Her ability to create such lush sounds with complex instrumentation is such an inspiration. I sometimes joke that Titanic Rising is my bible. Some other inspirations are Bruno Major, Queen, Electric Light Orchestra, Frank Ocean, and Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.

Which is the part you enjoy the most about music?

Take a step from reality and press play

Most artists say that through their art they learn more about themselves, heal injuries… In which aspects has music helped you?

I love how music can connect people, generations and nationalities. Due to the fact that music is so emotional and genuine, emotions are easily transmitted and felt. I love that I get to connect emotionally with my audience members, some of which I have never even met. I also love how music can be a melting pot of styles and influences. Each artist is so unique and there are so many ways in which we can express. The possibilities for creativity are endless.

What does music mean to you?

It takes a long time to fully write, produce and release one song. In that time, I have to listen to the song at least 100 times. Listening to my music and analyzing it over and over again allows me to reflect on the meaning of the song. This has been really helpful in my personal life as I am able to fully digest and process what I was feeling at the moment when I first wrote the song. I always feel like I am a different person after each release because I have learned so much about myself not only as a person but as a musician.

Who are your idols?

is cinematic and overly emotional. With every single song that I write, I try to create a whole new world for that song. This is because I want my music to be an escape for my listeners. I want them to be able to enter a world that is larger than life right when they press play.

If you didn’t like music, what would you like to do?

A huge passion of mine that is other than music is health and fitness. I currently follow the paleo diet and workout twice a day. I love searching for new recipes and learning about new ways to keep active. I would love to be a fitness instructor and help others attain their own physical goals.

Do you consider that nowadays there are more or less opportunities for new artists? Why?

That is a very interesting question. I think that with the rise of social media has dramatically opened up new opportunities for independent artists. Now, anyone can post a video of them singing on TikTok or upload an original to Spotify. Despite the endless opportunities that social media brings, there is nothing like a live performance. During these shows, I am able to personally connect and meet my fans. I miss performing live and am very excited to start again once it is safe.

What would your idyllic life as an artist be like?

I would love to be a touring and recording artist. My ultimate goal as a musician is to emotionally impact my audience. I want my music to be intimate and emotional while remaining lush and full of interesting timbers and textures. I aim to create a raw and genuine experience for my listeners. I would love to tour around the world sharing the music that I love with people who want to listen to it!
