"It’s fun to sing and shout though"
Madeline Rose - Interview
When did you start to get interested in music?
I became interested in music from a young age when my parents introduced piano lessons to me. I think that’s where my passion for singing and songwriting came from. And then, I met some awesome people who were in mix of creating and releasing music onto really big platforms and I thought to myself, “ I want to do that”. And so, now here I am pursuing my musical dream.
If you were an advertisement, which would your slogan be?
For some reason the only advertisement slogan that’s popping into my head right now is… RICOLA!! I don’t know, is that even a slogan? It’s fun to sing and shout though! Lol!
Which is the part you enjoy the most about music?
Great question! I would say the part I enjoy the most about music is the process of coming together with friends and other people to create something truly great. It’s no fun making music alone. Before, I always used to write and sing music all on my own and I can’t tell you how much of a joy and impact it had on me to have other people in my life say, “hey, I relate to that lyric!” and, “hey, we’re in this together, now, let’s go make that bread!” It’s honestly been the connections and relationships I’ve made with other people that have been, hands down, one of the best things about music.
Most artists say that through their art they learn more about themselves, heal injuries… In which aspects has music helped you?
I honestly don’t think music heals anything. I struggled with depression for years upon years and I wrote so many songs about it, and I wished they would have taken away the pain I felt, but honestly they never did, and, sometimes it made it worse for me to be real. Creating music can be vulnerable, but I think can also be dangerous as well, or at least it could be if your not in the right mindset. That’s why I took a break from writing music for a while, to focus on myself, because I kept trying to write to be relatable, and I hated it. I needed to figure myself out and once I cleared that up, I had a new identity that I was more than happy to share with others through music. To say Music healed me is honestly like saying I made something and that something healed me. It’s inevitably by our own hand or by our own sword that we can choose to heal or be healed by something or someone. In my case I can only say that what healed me in life and that continues to do so is in having found Jesus Christ as my personal savior.
What does music mean to you?
Music is the way in which I express myself, that bridge of relatability with others, and I’m crazy obsessed about it.
Who are your idols?
Some of my music idols have been, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Whitney Houston, and Alicia Keys… to name a few… I could go on!
If you didn’t like music, what would you like to do?
If I didn’t like music I would probably have fallen in more love with drawing. I’ve always loved to draw, but my passion for music has always been greater.
Do you consider that nowadays there are more or less opportunities for new artists? Why?
I’ve heard some say yes and no to that question before, but honestly I think that if you truly have great music, talent, but more importantly the mindset to work for those opportunities, you can achieve it. But only if your truly willing to work for it. It’s hard to find opportunities for artists, but it doesn’t mean that there less, and it doesn’t mean that there are more. If you can create a great product of music, you can put in as much time to create just as great the opportunity for it. What you give, is what you get.
What would your idyllic life as an artist be like?
Performing for people, singing my heart out to others and having them sing their hearts out with me
