Pepper Jimosse - Interview

INTERVIEW:

When did you start to get interested in music?

I have been singing since I could talk. My family used to have “singing days” where we had to sing everything instead of talk for the day. I have always loved singing, About 3 years ago I started taking lessons and about a year ago I started performing. I love singing and knowing that I can bring enjoyment to others. Now, most of my singing is with Max Wright (we are MaxandPepperMusic). I actually really like singing with Max. Having someone to sing with has made me fall in love with music all over again.

If you were an advertisement, which would your slogan be?

I’ll be your light when you can’t be your own.

Which is the part you enjoy the most about music?

I love performing and watching people react to my singing. When I can brighten up someone’s day and make them feel good, it makes me want to sing more. I started singing with Max Wright (we are MaxandPepperMusic) about 9 months ago. People seem to really like it when we sing together which makes everything that much better.

Most artists say that through their art they learn more about themselves, heal injuries… In which aspects has music helped you?

I tend to have anxiety. It’s not severe but there are times when it is really hard to fight through. Music helps me feel less anxiety. I feel good when I sing. I’m not always confident about singing, but it still is an outlet for my emotions. I can express myself better when I’m singing too and it brings me peace as well.

What does music mean to you?

Music is my outlet. It is a way I can express myself and communicate what I am feeling. I like ballads and love songs a lot but I enjoy all genres. My friends think I know the words to every song from RAP to Country. That is probably not true, but I am constantly listening to music and singing it. I’m also learning guitar and piano and can play the ukulele pretty well.

Who are your idols?

Billie Eillish, Shawn Mendes, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande. There are probably others but those are the main ones.

If you didn’t like music, what would you like to do?

Right now I am thinking about being a NICU nurse or a pediatric nurse. I connect with kids and want to do something with children in the future.

Do you consider that nowadays there are more or less opportunities for new artists? Why?

I think there are fewer opportunities because everyone is really picky these days. Also while social media gives everyone a platform, social media gives everyone a platform. Anyone with any talent at all can put their music on social media platforms and get a following. There is just a lot more competition. With so many options it makes it really clear that there are a lot of amazing and talented people out there. This can be discouraging because there is so much competition.

What would your idyllic life as an artist be like?

I would love to perform, write music, and help other aspiring artists. Being able to have a platform where I could visit children’s hospitals and do good things for them would be amazing. I also really like the idea of being a role model for young girls and being able to help them as well.
