Sara Costa - Interview

When did you start to get interested in music?

Music was in my house from when I was a child.
I had a piano because my dad played it as an amateur musician, and my mum took some violin lessons at school. Listening to music, classical but also italian songs, pop, jazz etc. was natural from when I was a child. At the age of 8 years old I started to take some lessons from my father and from that moment my love bloomed, day after day.

If you were an advertisement, which would your slogan be?

Discover your inner world!

Which is the part you enjoy the most about music?

After a performance I am happy if I feel I’ve had a very special connection with the public. Music gives hope for the beauty, gives everybody the possibility to speak and understand the same universal language. I love also the feeling of being one thing with my piano, on stage and at home, feeling it like a extension of myself.

Most artists say that through their art they learn more about themselves, heal injuries… In which aspects has music helped you?

Music has helped me to connect myself with my deepest side. With music I can just be myself, express each emotions and try to communicate them to listeners.
This is also the only way to deal with the stress: just thinking about giving to the audience, sharing, nothing more.

What does music mean to you?

Music to me means speaking about emotions!
I strongly believe that music has the power to enlarge the heart, to make you feel everything with more intensity.
Music gives hope for Beauty.
I’m really happy when I’m able to speak to people’s souls through my playing!

Who are your idols?

I love many musicians, but if I have to say who really can always inspire me I’d say the pianists Tatiana Nikolaeva and Annie Fischer. Amazing musicians, strong women with a very personal voice.
But anyway I think the best thing is just try to be the best version of myself!

If you didn’t like music, what would you like to do?

Probably psychologist or have an indipendent book shop in a beaufitul Italian city.

Do you consider that nowadays there are more or less opportunities for new artists? Why?

I’m struggling with this new situation created by Covid-19 emergency and really sad for culture, events, concerts cancelled.
I really hope to come back to normality soon.
But at the same time, I think is also important to motivate young musicians, as my students are for example, to continue to practice and to believe in their dreams. So, never give up!

What would your idyllic life as an artist be like?

I’m grateful for having the possibility to express myself without thinking to be perfect. I’m just doing my best and I’m grateful for the opportunity I have: for concerts, for recordings, for teaching.
In my ideal life music is something which embrace all my day, so I’m actually really happy and satisfied.
