Singer & Songwriter

About

Nathalie is a singer and songwriter from London who refuses to be defined by a genre. She’s inspired by many types of music and she creates music to pay homage to the music that has inspired her.

Nathalie is a huge fan of blues, soul and classic rock, and all of this combines to form her own particular sound…which she can’t define.

Interview

When did you start to get interested in music?

I’ve always loved music. I started playing the piano when I was 6 years old, and went through and completed all my Classical grades. But singing has always been a huge part of my life, it just took longer to manifest itself. I used to sing in my room with the radio turned up really loud so that no-one would hear me, as I was so shy. And I always dreamed of being on stage and singing my own music.

If you were an advertisement, which would your slogan be?

‘Nathalie Miranda…because giving up is never an option’

Which is the part you enjoy the most about music?

Performing live. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy writing and recording my songs, but for me, the biggest thrill is being onstage with a live band and doing my thing in front of a live audience. I love feeding off that raw energy!

Most artists say that through their art they learn more about themselves, heal injuries… In which aspects has music helped you?

I definitely relate to this. Throughout the pandemic, I was forced to take a closer look at myself and I found out that I’m much stronger than I thought, and more resilient too. Music has always been that one thing that never judged me, and never expected anything from me. Writing songs is a cathartic experience and has always helped me get through difficult times.

What does music mean to you?

My art means everything to me. It’s my way of expressing myself in a world where there is so much noise, and we have to fight to get our voices heard.

Who are your idols?

Freddie Mercury is my number one inspiration. He is everything I could hope to be as an artist, and I have always felt some kind of connection to his story. I also love Whitney Houston, Christina Aguilera, Prince…too many to name!

If you didn’t like music, what would you like to do?

I am obsessed with archaeology, so I think I definitely would have gone into that field. I particularly love Ancient Egyptian history and the Tudor period.

Do you consider that nowadays there are more or less opportunities for new artists? Why?

I think there are definitely more opportunities but I think that in turn it’s made life much harder for us. We have to be everywhere, do a million things and we are expected to know how to do everything! We now have to be our own managers, tour managers, PR guru, event booker, video editor, producer…the list is endless. I think there is way too much pressure on artists today, particularly with social media.

What would your idyllic life as an artist be like?

Being able to create and perform my own music for people that really want to hear it. If I can make even a small portion of people happy through what I do, then that will make me happy.

Which are your upcoming projects?

My new single ‘Is This Love’ is out on 11th February, so I’m focusing on that right now. My goal is to release three original singles this year as well as continuing to collaborate on dance projects, as I did in 2020 and 2021.
