Nicole Peña Comas - Interview

When did you start to get interested in music?

I started early musical education when I was 7 years old and I played the recorder for a while and when I turned 10 I started playing the cello.

If you were an advertisement, which would your slogan be?

Be true to yourself and trust your guts!

Which is the part you enjoy the most about music?

the freedom it gives you to express something

Most artists say that through their art they learn more about themselves, heal injuries… In which aspects has music helped you?

Music has taught me to have discipline, to be curious, to experiment, to meditate, to breathe, to coordinate movements, to exchange, to communicate, to tell a story, to express myself through sounds.

What does music mean to you?

Music is the most humble, noble, honorable, unique and honest way of expression that exists.

Who are your idols?

In music: Dvorak, Fauré and Rachmaninov as Composers; Jacqueline Du Pré, Mstislav Rostropovich, André Navarra as Cellist because they always gave their soul and body in every sound they produced, this means, they put the music above their mastery of the instrument.

In life: my family

If you didn’t like music, what would you like to do?

I would be a philosopher, astronomer or professional horse rider.

Do you consider that nowadays there are more or less opportunities for new artists? Why?

There are actually neither more, nor less opportunities, you just have to find them and act.

What would your idyllic life as an artist be like?

To bring and share my music all around the world; and to achieve that through my music people heal their wounds, feel better, happier and in peace.
