"Give me three words and I’ll write you a song"
Interview
When did you start to get interested in music?
I first became interested in Music when I was a kid, my dad always tried to teach me how to play guitar but I never really wanted to sit down and learn. I always just wanted to hear it.
A couple years later my Grandfather gave me my first guitar and asked me to promise him I would learn to play. Unfortunately 2 weeks after he had given me that first guitar he had passed away. From then on I never gave up on that promise I made to him and music quickly took over my life.
If you were an advertisement, which would your slogan be?
Give me three words and I’ll write you a song.
Which is the part you enjoy the most about music?
The thing I love most about being a musical artist is, I get to write about the things that actually happen. There’s not a single song I’ve written that isn’t about a real life event. Emotion, and memories are the soul of my work and its honestly a blessing that I get to make this a career.
Music isn’t easy, nor should it be, but man I have to say putting what I feel and experience down into a song and hearing it become something more than just words is worth it. It’s so worth it.
Most artists say that through their art they learn more about themselves, heal injuries… In which aspects has music helped you?
Through my own music I’ve realized there are things deep inside you that want to express itself, and those strengths or insecurities can really hurt you or grow you. Although writing about those insecurities or strengths and being vulnerable enough to express them, allows other people to relate and it definitely helps to know you are not alone.
Whether in my case that’s singing about love. Most of the songs I have written are from a place of confusion about love, and how it looks different in every scenario. This has helped me to experience things in a different way.
What does music mean to you?
My art is me. It’s everything about me captured in song form, and for that I couldn’t be more grateful. My music has always been an escape not only for me to express myself, but for me to understand myself too. Life as a musician who wasn’t born with talent is hard.
I didn’t have single clue about how to sing, or what key things were in, or how I was supposed to sing AND play guitar at the same time, but I had dedication and a passion for my art and it created a fire deep inside me that allowed me to pursue this dream.
Who are your idols?
Some artists I really look up to are Ben Rector and Raynes. I think they perfectly capture the essence of real emotion in music. I have always loved the way that Ben Rector tells story in his music, and I’ve always been so mesmerized by his ability to make words that don’t go anywhere close together work in a song about a broke down Honda Civic.
Raynes has always been amazing at incorporating their many stringed instruments into creative works of art I can only dream of making someday, and it’s just insane to me the topics they are all able to write about and seem so emotionally attached.
If you didn’t like music, what would you like to do?
Dont get me wrong music will always be my first choice when it comes to it. But if I couldn’t be a musician, I would be a pastry chef. I love to cook good desserts. Anything like chocolate covered strawberries to a custom written brown sugar icing cake that’s definitely the backup.
Do you consider that nowadays there are more or less opportunities for new artists? Why?
I personally would never discount opportunities for new artists. The way that the industry is right now especially with the access artists have to social media, there are way more avenues and opportunities for new artists to grow and expand than there ever were. Look at Tik Tok for example artists are blowing up left and right on there. I think opportunity is in its prime so take a hold of that talent and get to it.
What would your idyllic life as an artist be like?
I might seem cliché, but I just want to make hits with Shawn Mendes in the back of a limo on the way to my next show.. Im kidding, although that would be cool, my ideal life as an artist is to just make new music for me and my fans to enjoy.
Money? Fame? Who cares, give me a platform to make music that I love and others will love I’ll take it. Let’s just make music that we can dance to when it snowing outside and we are stuck by the fire playing monopoly. I would do that every day.
Which are your upcoming projects?
I have a few new projects coming out this November. My new single ” Winter Snow ” comes out November 12th and my favorite so far ” Time in July ” comes out November 26th as well as a Music Video for it. I’m super excited for everyone to hear these!
