Interview
When did you start to get interested in music?
I have been interested in music since I found out singing was a thing. I have always loved to sing, either in my house or in my room or trying out for chorus solos when I was young.
I have started getting serious about it this past year when I realized that I was coming up with original songs in my head without even realizing it. I then started writing them down and now I am about to come out with my first official song “Girls of Summer”
If you were an advertisement, which would your slogan be?
“I am limitless, I speak up, work hard, and care!”
Which is the part you enjoy the most about music?
I love how deep and profound music can be. How the instruments combine with the vocals to tell a story and actually mean everything they are singing. You can hear the passion in the music and that story they are telling is beautiful.
Most artists say that through their art they learn more about themselves, heal injuries… In which aspects has music helped you?
Music has helped me deal with loss and isolation. It has been an outlet for emotion and helps me portray some of the things most people don’t want to discuss or don’t know is an issue. I want to not only heal myself but also others through music.
What does music mean to you?
Music to me is a way to express emotion. It doesn’t have a constant meaning to me because it constantly changes. It depends based on how you are feeling in the moment. Music drives us back to a moment in time.
Whether you are feeling sad or happy or confused it is still a way to connect to something and let your emotions take you off or calm you. Music can have such a profound effect on how I feel, similar to a fragrance.
Who are your idols?
I have a lot of people I look up to and learn from. First, I look up to my family. My mother has taught me so much about the world and values. My father has also taught me about nature and sportsmanship. Both of my parents have shaped me to the person I am today and so has my sister.
I look up to my sister, Lyra, she has completely changed the way I look at the world. Lyra taught me that no matter what, even if you can’t walk or talk you can be strong. She taught me to have tough skin and showed me just how beautiful life is and how much we take the most basic things for granted. I also look up to artists that the mass media sees.
I look up to Christina Aguilera and Ariana grande because of the incredible range and vocal control each one of these artists possess. I also gain influence from artists like Aurora and Billie eilish, we have a similar style to our music and I really like how I connect to their songs.
If you didn’t like music, what would you like to do?
I don’t know how it would be possible for someone to not like music. Simultaneously with music, I like acting. So if in a weird world where I didn’t enjoy music and singing I would want to put more of my efforts into acting.
I have always loved to see what it is like in other peoples shoes and what makes them have their small quirks. In addition to singing and acting, I find academics extremely important. I am a straight-A student in honors classes, knowledge is power. If my life makes me go down a path of science and math, I would like to go into genetics because of my special needs sister.
Do you consider that nowadays there are more or less opportunities for new artists? Why?
On my opinion there are more opportunities to get out there online, and not have the constraint of being told what you can and can’t create. I think it’s also hard to get OUT there, getting on radio is so difficult, and getting people to hear what you create is very hard.
What would your idyllic life as an artist be like?
I would like to be able to perform in front of crowds; I want to touch people with my words. Music connects people. I want to act on a show that I can also sing on. I want to work on a feature film playing all levels of characters.
