"Music as Art"

Imvnyel - Interview

When did you start to get interested in music?

My father was a musician, he played the piano, guitar and drums, so I have been exposed to music my whole live. I really became serious about music in the 5th grade when I started playing the clarinet.

If you were an advertisement, which would your slogan be?

Music as art.

Which is the part you enjoy the most about music?

Listening to a song and trying to figure the emotional puzzle sitting in the music. What emotions does it elicit and how can I recreate that feeling with words.

Most artists say that through their art they learn more about themselves, heal injuries… In which aspects has music helped you?

It helps me deal more with the what-ifs. I get explore different ideas like the Heartbreak that never happened, the mistakes i should’ve have made, the door i never opened or never shut. Its more an outlet for me to express ideas and feelings that are stuck in my head.

What does music mean to you?

Its super cliché, but I feel like music is inherently in my spirit. It’s something I have tried to ignore and move on from in the past but music is a part of me that I just can’t ever let go of.

Who are your idols?

I don’t know if I actually have idols but my biggest influences are definitely musicians like John Mayer, Michael Jackson, Kanye West

If you didn’t like music, what would you like to do?

Probably would do more Jiu Jitsu and Kickboxing or it’d be addicted to playing Fifa.

Do you consider that nowadays there are more or less opportunities for new artists? Why?

I think there are more opportunities to get heard but its harder to stay relevant now days. Most people’s attention span last about 1 week when it comes to new music and you really have to work to keep their attention, that also makes it harder to gain a solid following if you can’t keep up the demand. If you can keep up then I think its easier to break out big enough to make a living.

What would your idyllic life as an artist be like?

I would write songs maybe 5 days week, shoot some videos and do some live performances. I’m never sure if I wouldn’t want all the crazy fame, but I know I do love seeing people enjoy my music!
