Oscar Tysoe - Interview

When did you start to get interested in music?

When I was around 16, I became much more serious about the piano and spent many hours practicing. The piano works of Chopin, Debussy and Bach were the first pieces of classical music that I really loved and from there, I became equally interested in creating music myself. I began to create short musical ideas at the keyboard and this soon became the aspect of music that I most enjoyed.

If you were an advertisement, which would your slogan be?

Be creative and be yourself

Which is the part you enjoy the most about music?

Finding a new piece of music that speaks profoundly to me in some away and being transported.

Most artists say that through their art they learn more about themselves, heal injuries… In which aspects has music helped you?

Music has given me a sense of identity in that I feel it is the artistic medium through which I can best express myself. When I was younger and spent most of my time practicing the piano, I feel it gave me a clear direction and goal.

What does music mean to you?

Music to me is a medium of expression that transcends all others. Profound sentiments can be told through it and it is a universal language.

Who are your idols?

There are so many other musicians who inspire me but I would say that J.S Bach had been the most significant figure in my experience of music. There are many younger composers out there whose passion is impossible not to find inspiring such as Dan Keen, JJay Berthume, Jordan M Holloway and Anthony O’Toole to name a few.

If you didn’t like music, what would you like to do?

I think I may have liked to have been an artist as I have always loved creative pursuits and loved illustration.

Do you consider that nowadays there are more or less opportunities for new artists? Why?

I would say there are more as long as you as willing to do as much as possible to create them. The outreach of musicians can be enormous and far reaching if you are willing to put yourself out there.

What would your idyllic life as an artist be like?

I would love to be professionally creative and write music for the medium of video games and film as well as concert works.
