RavenRain - Bio

Italian born and London based singer and songwriter. I began my music career at the age of 14. I have an eclectic taste in music that’s why each one of my songs has a different vibe to it.
I take inspiration from personal experiences, especially when it comes to mental health; I’ve been dealing with depression and anxiety disorder since I was a teenager. I’ve also have been battling with an autoimmune disease since the age of 2. Through my music and experiences, I want to help and empower people, who are going through difficult times.

"Dream big never give up. You'll make it."

RavenRain - Interview

When did you start to get interested in music?

I’ve been interested in music since I was a toddler. Such a huge Disney fan, so I liked to create my performance in pure musical theatre style, under the sea and the circle of life were a must for me.

I began taking singing classes at the age of 14; I learnt basic piano, guitar and flute. I attended a music academy in my hometown where I used to perform at showcases. I also began to write but I didn’t think I was good enough so it was more like a hobby for me.

I also auditioned to X-factor. After moving to London to attend university I left music on the side, as I didn’t feel like I was talented enough. However after I graduated I felt like something was missing from my life. So I kind of went back into music and took writing and songwriting more seriously and here I am.

If you were an advertisement, which would your slogan be?

Dream big never give up. You’ll make it.

Which is the part you enjoy the most about music?

I don’t think there’s a specific aspect of it that I prefer, depends on the day to be honest. Recently I really enjoy writing and record my own songs. Sometimes I do prefer singing, especially if I am struggling with something I like to sing a very powerful ballad to let things go.

Most artists say that through their art they learn more about themselves, heal injuries… In which aspects has music helped you?

Music is what helped me to keep going. I began struggling with severe anxiety and depression when I was a teenager, I didn’t have many friends so I spent most of the time alone. Music helped me to cope with intrusive thoughts and overwhelming feeling. I had days where I was listening to music from the time I woke up until going to sleep at night, I still do it sometimes. After I started to write and create my own music I was able to let go of some feelings that were kind of dragging me down, and some of my traumas have began to heal.
With my music I hope to help people that are going through what I went through when I was younger and also people that share similar experiences to mine.

What does music mean to you?

It’s going to sound really cheesy but…music is like oxygen to me. I wouldn’t be able to survive without it.
As I mentioned it kept me alive through those dark years and it’s still helping me to cope with some intrusive thoughts.
There is also something magical about performing on stage, doesn’t matter how big the stage is, but it makes me feel alive, full of energy and happiness.

Who are your idols?

I really love Halsey, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. I would probably end up in tears if I meet any of them honestly.
I love kpop, so BTS and Mamamoo are just two examples. I grew up listening to rock and roll so ACDC are in too.

If you didn’t like music, what would you like to do?

I’m not 100% sure if I have to be honest. Music is such a huge part of my life that I can’t see myself doing anything else. I would have probably moved to East Asia, like Japan or Korea (might actually move there in a few years time) and perhaps I would have become an English teacher I guess.

Do you consider that nowadays there are more or less opportunities for new artists? Why?

I think there are more opportunities thanks to social media. The exposure that social media provide is amazing; it’s easier to find venues, gigs or event to perform at. Easier to connect with other musicians for collaboration, easier to find potential agent or a&r interested in your music and style. I think the only negative aspect is that there so many people on social media platforms, musician and no-musicians, that it’s really difficult to make yourself stand out. However, I believe that with patience, hard work and just a bit of luck anything is possible.

What would your idyllic life as an artist be like?

Ideally, I would like to be able to turn music into a full-time job rather than just something on the side if it makes sense.

I would love to be able to perform at Summertime Ball in Wembley one day. It’s my favorite festival, such a vibrant and funny atmosphere. I like to dream big so It would be amazing to be able to tour around the UK, Europe and the world in the future. As Joanna Montes says ‘you get one life, why do it small? Dream big, go big, live beyond your fears’
